Artist in the Making?

Ruthie LOVES to 'color'. To her, color means anything from markers and crayons to painting or playing with play-dough. She had her first shot at watercolors while at her friend Sam's house. Sam is a bit older, and his mom actually IS an artist, so painting is a relatively common occurrence there. She seemed to do really well with it, so we got her some of her own paints for Easter. Here are some photos of Ruth creating a masterpiece. And by the way, she is not bound by painting rules--watercolors can double as fingerpaints.

My Little Cook

One of the best things I've learned as a mom lately is the power of oatmeal. Not eating it, although that is good too. I'm talking about it's properties that make it the perfect ingredient for nearly all of Ruthie's kitchen creations. It is fun to stir, easy to clean up (in it's dry state of course), and ok to eat. Whenever I need to get some cooking done and Ruth is just clinging to me, wanting to go up to see what's going on, I bring out a bowl and pour in some rolled oats and dried fruit. I give her a spoon, and one or two more containers for transferring, and she is all set for a good 15 minutes. And when she's done she likes to 'clean up' with her little broom and dust pan (which adds at least another 5 minutes). These photos are from several weeks ago, when Ruthie was 'helping' Aunt Becky and Mommy make some oatmeal cookies. This is when I first learned of the power of oatmeal :)

Someone's a Big Sister!

Most of you have probably known this for awhile already, but I though I'd make it 'blog official'. Ruthie is going to be a big sister!! Well, she is now, but you know what I mean. We get to meet her little BROTHER near the end of August if all goes well. We just got a peek of him on Tuesday. Unfortunately, the printer wasn't working well, so we only got one picture. It is of his face, and I think those shots are a bit creepy and alien-like. So I will share a pic from the first ultrasound, which was about a month ago.


Ruth knows to point to my tummy when we ask where the baby is, but then she promptly points to her belly button also. So I'm not sure what she thinks is in there... But she definitely knows what a baby is, and points them out loudly in public. I think by the time the baby arrives she will be a great big sister!
